Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio’s collaboration has yielded some of the most well-performed, cutting-edge movies, like The Wolf of Wall Street, Gangs of New York, and Shutter Island. Their most recent collaboration, 2023’s Killers of the Flower Moon, was received with critical acclaim and garnered ten Oscar nominations. So, naturally, fans are excited to see their next collaboration, and we just got a step closer to it.
The duo’s next, What Happens at Night, will start filming in February 2026, as per a new report. The news emerges as DiCaprio and Scorsese held a conversation during an event in New York, reflecting on their relationship and work together. The upcoming movie was first announced back in September, with Jennifer Lawrence set opposite Caprio. With three Oscar winners set as top-line talents, the movie has everything going for it.
What’s ‘What Happened at Night’ About?
The movie is based on Peter Cameron's novel of the same name. Scripted by Patrick Marber, the movie follows a married American couple who travel to a small, snowy European town to adopt a baby. As they check into a deserted hotel, they encounter numerous characters, including a flamboyant chanteuse, a depraved businessman, and a faith healer. Things take a turn when the couple struggles to claim their baby; they seem to know less about themselves and the life they’ve built together than they thought. What Happened at Night appears to be a compelling psychological thriller centered on the couple’s relationship, which is being influenced by their surroundings. Scorsese and DiCaprio have tackled similar material with their previous collaboration, Shutter Island, which rose to critical and fan acclaim. Further, Lawrence’s latest Die My Love saw her acing the psychological drama, alongside Robert Pattinson as her helpless husband. While no further casting details are available at the moment, one can expect frequent Scorsese collaborators to pop up in the supporting cast.
Meanwhile, DiCaprio is garnering a lot of awards buzz with his latest release, One Battle After Another, a frontrunner for a Best Actor nomination. Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the black comedy action feature has garnered much critical acclaim and earned $204.7 million on a $175 million budget.
