Could Kieran Culkin be starring in a romantic comedy next year? The chances are much higher with the news that the Succession star and Oscar winner set to star in an upcoming film directed by Nancy Meyers. This is not the first time the pair have collaborated. In fact, Meyers was one of Culkin's earliest collaborators, when he starred in Father of the Bride, directed and written by Meyers. The film also starred the late Diane Keaton, Steve Martin, and Kimberly Williams-Paisley. There was a sequel, Father of the Bride Part II, and a threequel of sorts filmed during the pandemic. Now, Culkin and Meyers will reunite in a movie that begins filming in May, directed by Meyers. She revealed the news during a Question and Answer session for a special screening of Father of the Bride.

The film is likely the high-budget movie Meyers has had in development for years, that was supposed to be in development at Netflix in 2023 but was cancelled. Its working title is called Paris Paramount. The project is meant to be a semi-autobiographical romantic comedy, inspired by parts of Meyers' own life. The movie was originally set to star Owen Wilson, Michael Fassbender, Scarlett Johansson, and Penélope Cruz but those names now may be off the call sheet, with only Culkin confirmed for this latest iteration of the project.

Who Is Nancy Meyers?

For those that are seeing this and the name Kieran Culkin, after being a fan of his from Succession and are like 'Who is Nancy Meyers? I've never seen a romcom in my life!' Have no fear. Meyers is an acclaimed romantic comedy writer and director, with hits spanning decades such as Baby Boom, Father of the Bride, The Parent Trap, Something's Gotta Give, It's Complicated, and (if you're seeing this before Christmas, a perfect flick to watch) The Holiday. Her most recent film is 2015's The Intern, which starred Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway. One of Meyers' best themes in her works is that life doesn't stop at a certain age. In fact, it can just get started. She reminds us to be the main character in our own life, seek out things that truly serve us and fulfill us, and sometimes second chances are exactly what you need to start over. Her films are full of wit, humor, and heart. They're like a warm hug and a mug of steaming tea after a long day. Whatever the project may be that starts filming in May, it will surely be a treat for fans of Culkin and Meyers alike.
